# Doe Hawthorne
> *furious scribbling noises* *-- Doe* At first glance, an aloof, no-nonsense teenager with something to prove, which is half true. Working as an apprentice to the solitary Witch Cordelia Hawthorne, Doe still has a lot to learn about how to use her powers. She's never actually... *done* an exorcism before, but she's watched plenty, and how different can that really be? She is absolutely *not* supposed to be here, Cordelia's going to kill her when she finds out.

### Backstory --- Doe doesn't remember much of anything before her 14th birthday, but she never had the need. For as long as she could remember, it had been her, and her Mentor, Cordelia Hawthorne, making her, Doe Hawthorne. She recalls a lot of recovery, her mentor had said she had an illness, something she had been lucky to have survived with only one major setback, a large scar, around the entirety of her neck, leaving her unable to speak. She does her best to cover it nowadays. Cordelia's focus is in end of life, and afterlife care. She does funerary practices, as well as exorcisms, and has been passing these practices down to Doe. Working so closely with the dead, Cordelia was often rumored to work in necromancy, a magic heavily looked down upon. All allegations have been denied, however. Doe takes great pride in her mentor, defending her vehemently if any mention of dark magic is made regarding either of them. Her firey temper doesn't help these fights, and Cordelia sincerely wishes she would stop. Part of the reason for their ridicule is the patron Cordelia has gotten their powers from. Katara, the Goddess of Curses and bad luck. Worshiping her, they are allowed to use her powers of manipulation, gaining access to strings of fate that they can do with what they please (elaborated on in abilities section.) ### Physical Appearance + Notes --- Doe has washed out lilac hair, looking almost gray in some lights, that reaches a little past her shoulders. The front bangs are choppily cut, curling this way and that. She has pale peach skin, that has a perpetual blush, always looking like she just stepped out of the cold, no matter how warm. Doe also has a overbite most easily seen through her side profile. Her eyes sit large on her face, with irises the same color as her sclera, and a very prominent nose. She's mildly cross-eyed, but it tends to just add to her far-off looking expression. Despite not being too tall, she looks lanky and awkward, especially from her habit of standing off to the side of rooms. Even when not wearing whatever clothes she was wearing when trapped in the terminal, most of her clothes are long and flowy. Lots of dark colors and embroidered little details. Most days, she does her makeup before leaving the house. (if you're looking to draw her, more accurate colors are at the bottom of the page :))

### Personality --- Doe tends to come off as cold, or mysterious at first glance, with how she never talks, and tends to loom in the corners of rooms. She is often joked to be confused with the ghost her mentor is supposed to exorcize. In reality, she tends to space out, often in another world. Doe is very honest, wearing her heart on her sleeve, though this, and the fact that she has to quickly write things down to communicate them, result in her coming off as blunt at best, and uncaring, or even mean at worst. Despite her habit of zoning out and wandering away, even in important moments, Doe is very loyal, and will defend the honor of anyone she cares about with a passion. She tends to have some trouble making friends, being very used to solitude, and the way she comes off to others, but she does not prefer to be alone. Coming to the terminal would of been one of the first times she was out in the world in any meaningful way, and Doe is very curious and eagar to learn. She also doesn't think before leaping into decisions, but will stick by them and defend them if her actions are ever called into question. Doe's spacey, but not passive, and she'll argue until her pencil's worn down, and she's out of paper. She's very confident in her beliefs, leading to her being a little too prideful. Going along with this, she can be a bit vain, caring a considerable amount about her appearance, but not so much on how she is perceived. Doe knows she looks good, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Doe is very superstitious, she will absolutely refuse to do anything she thinks will bring bad luck. She likes to befriend black cats though, if they like her, they won't give her bad luck. She has a few rituals she adheres to for good luck as well.

### Abilities --- #### ✦ Magic The magic Doe was taught is very string based, her spells are created by sets of glowing strings she can create at will from her hands. These are known as the strings of fate, really they are everywhere, already set up by the Goddess of bad luck, she simply has the ability to manipulate existing ones, and have control of some of her own. From these, she can create a circular string, and make *cats cradle* patterns to achieve different spells on their own, the strings can these can be used to bind, or puppet, other people/spirits. There is a set amount of force they can take before snapping, though. #### ✦ Sigils Doe has extensive knowledge of Sigils, making them and how to weave them together to create the strongest sets. She creates talismans to be sold, and adorns many of her clothes with embroidery of her favorites. These include "guide my hand" on both of the sleeves of her jacket, and one of protection on the back. #### ✦ Analytical Spending a lot of time in silence, Doe considers herself an expert people watcher. A large part of this is also people assuming that because she is quiet, it is safe to gossip around her. It absolutely is not. She prefers to watch from afar before talking to someone, getting those details in before she approaches them. She tends to make a lot of assumptions, and holds on to first impressions as the end-all-be-all of a person, but she's right more often than she isn't, and opinions can *sometimes* change. ### Skills & Stats --- Doe has not finished her training yet, despite this, she picks up concepts and magic very easily. Her specific type of magic requires spells to be set up beforehand, more suited towards nonaggressive exorcisms than any kind of battle. She would be more inclined to restrain someone before actually fighting. She's a miserable sight when trying to engage in any physical activity. Like abysmal. At best, Doe can run sort of fast.
Weapons How does one deal with self-defense when not very powerful? None other than a gun. Doe carries around a small pistol, as well as a short dagger and a pair of sewing scissors.
