Kasper Reenberg (WIP)

I think I might have made a mistake.

-- Kasper

Unlike the others, Kasper arrived at The Terminal purely by accident. Lost, confused, and with no clear way to return to his world without the risk of getting himself killed in the process, he decided to take part in Bifrost Terminal's ghost hunting mission out of curiosity and charity. After all, The Terminal is riddled with mysteries- and solving them might be his one-way ticket to home.

Backstory

Kasper lived a fairly average and mundane life until he entered college, where he befriended a group of friends who were into paranormal and urban legends. At first, they tried making their own ghost-hunting videos for fun, but after multiple failed attempts at capturing anything supernatural on tape, they realized they had a deeper passion for exploring abandoned places. Nowadays, their projects revolve around urban exploration and investigating obscure myths, sometimes both at the same time.

Although Kasper couldn't be a part of their team like he always did after graduating and having to return back to his homeland, he still joined the gang occasionally when his schedule allowed him and got enough money for his travel expenses.

One day, they found an old forum website that discussed a certain old mystery that appears to be forgotten by time and took interest to investigate. After days of intense research, they managed to track down the location tied to the rumors and began planning their next investigation. Coincidentally, it was around the same time that Kasper was able to return and visit his friends- so they eagerly invited him to join in as well.

Nobody at the time expected the mystery to run deeper than they thought it would be. For better or worse, Kasper will be the first- and the only one to find that out.

Not Built For This World

Kasper has one major weakness: since he comes from a world where magic is regarded as a myth and almost non-existent, being exposed to a different world where magic is the norm can have terrible side effects on his body if he comes into direct contact with it.

In short, he is highly vulnerable to magic and will experience unpredictable side effects when being exposed to it. Most of these effects can either be harmful or neutral, with some having the possibility to impact his health and others being outright fatal.

For example, if Kasper were given a fire magic stone meant to keep the user warm in cold weather, the best possible outcome is that his entire body could suddenly glow and turn him into a human lantern that attracts moths for a few minutes. The worst outcome? Spontaneous human combustion.

Note: Psychic, psionic, mental powers or any similar abilities are usually the exception. Meaning Kasper may experience only mild or no side effects from them. This is because the magic must be physical and must come into direct contact with Kasper’s body to trigger the side effects.

Magic Lantern

A mysterious lantern that Kasper carries around with him. He can move and control it at will without physical contact (similar to telekinesis). Based on its design and aesthetic, it seems to be linked to the Terminal itself.

✦ Magic Replication

The lantern has the ability to copy any physical magic that comes into direct contact with it, allowing Kasper to reuse the magic through the lantern when needed. This allows him to collect and replicate magic or magical items by absorbing at least a fraction of their magic into the lantern, which he can later use those copied magic for self-defense or to assist others. Kasper can control how to summon the magic from the lantern, but one of his common methods is transforming it into an area of effect (AOE) form and becoming sort of like a "filter" that allows him to use the magic on himself indirectly without getting any harmful side effects.

However, the copied magic is slightly weaker than the original, and Kasper must be good in precision and accuracy when controlling the lantern's movements during battle or in high-stakes situations. This is particularly crucial when dealing with magic that is difficult to capture, using the lantern to launch magic projectiles, or even attempting to parry an incoming magic attack in real time.

It should be noted that the lantern only replicates magic rather than stealing it from the original user. It can only collect magic that is visible to the naked eye and relies on the user’s memory and knowledge to use them. This means Kasper cannot use magic that he is unaware of, even if that magic has been collected into the lantern in the past. Additionally, if Kasper somehow lost his memories during the tournament, he would lose access to all the magic he had previously obtained and would have to start over unless he recovered from it.

✦ Visual Scrying

If Kasper sends his lantern beyond his line of sight, he can close his eyes and shift his vision to the lantern’s POV. This allows him to navigate through different or dangerous areas without having to be there. However, doing that would also leave Kasper in a vulnerable state. He can still be able to use the lantern's other abilities at the same time and can also speak through it, allowing instant communication with others while he's away.

✦ Basic heat and Light Manipulation

The lantern can emit heat and provide warmth to those nearby the lantern. Aside from being able to adjust its temperature and brightness, Kasper can also change its default cyan glow to any hue of his choosing. He could even turn it into a disco light if he wanted to.

✦ Unbreakable

Like the state of The Terminal itself, the lantern remains intact and pristine, unaffected by the wars and disasters even after a century.

Note: The lantern can only be used by those who come from worlds where magic is rare and is similar to Kasper's world. However, anyone who doesn't have any magical, mystical or superhuman ability like Cain can borrow and use the lantern with Kasper's consent. Otherwise, the lantern will not work and remain useless.

Doppelgänger

Ever since Kasper set foot in Bifrost Terminal, people have begun seeing someone who bears an eerie resemblance to him. This figure would briefly appear when people are left alone by themselves for a while. His doppelganger mostly doesn't speak, and if the individual noticed him, he will ignore them and walk away.

If they choose to follow him, they will instead encounter a different doppelganger who resembles another person or creature, currently engaged in their own business. Like Kasper's double, these figures typically ignore any attempts at interaction, acting as if they do not exist. If they try to touch the double, their bodies will simply phase through. There can be two or more doppelgangers during an encounter, and it is far more common to see someone else's double rather than one's own. These strange encounters are always brief, with the doppelganger disappearing after a short while.

The strange encounter can later happen again to the actual person or creature, occurring anywhere from a few minutes to several hours or days later. Basically, by encountering his doppelganger, it can offer somebody a glimpse into a possible future through witnessing the actions of other doppelgangers. Whether it serves as a warning or guidance is uncertain, leaving the individual to decide whether to alter their fate or ensure that outcome comes to pass.

However, when Kasper tries to follow his own doppelganger while he's alone, he is unlikely to encounter another doppelganger as others do. Instead, he will find himself in a situation or event where any choice he makes could lead to an impactful outcome, no matter how insignificant it may seem at the time. Butterfly Effect, if you will. This also applies when he's taking the same path that his doppelganger previously took, regardless of who witnessed the other him.

For unknown reasons, the spirits are unable to see his doppelganger, and it is uncertain whether The Entity is aware of his existence.
