The Bifrost Terminal

The statue reaches even higher than the tallest peak of The Pantheons it is carved into. A testament to its importance. Piercing light across the region. Seen from all around. A lighthouse, a beacon to all, guiding souls across the shores of the interworld planes, beckoning them to this resplendent monument, a first of its kind on Thraelos; the best across worlds. The Bifrost Terminal will be the greatest achievement Thraelos has ever known.

-- TITAN CEO

The first of its kind on Thraelos, The Bifrost Terminal was a portal magitech transportation hub set on the highest peak of The Pantheons mountain range. Built by megacorporation TITAN, the Terminal put into use the company's own innovative cutting edge discoveries with the portal magic inherent to the world of Thraelos, having invented a way to use that magic to instead connect to other worlds. Essentially, The Bifrost Terminal was the first interworld connecting port in the history of Thraelos.

It now stands abandoned, left to fade from memory after The Incident that closed its doors only a week after the grand opening a century ago.

History

This is the current information that the player characters would have had the easy opportunity to acquire by various means, such as having heard over time or speaking with others, at present audition stage.

✦ Prior to The incident

Taking approximately 5 years to construct, for all intents and purposes, the Terminal had a fairly standard construction-- if anything ever occurred throughout, it was never made public. Most of the construction was very carefully advertised as TITAN was leaning into hype and mystery to amp up the opening of the facility. Being the first, that is known of, to invent interworld portal magitech, the general populace had high trust in the old and well-established historic megacorporation that is TITAN to create such an important feat for the world overall.

The Bifrost Terminal held its grand opening in the spring of a century past. According to those who were there, it was the most incredible, if not a bit intimidatingly opulent, event of their lives. Even the walk from the grand entrance archway to the building entrance proper was pleasant and shielded by magic from the blistering blizzard winds around it, now just an incredible sight to see rather than a threat. Everything was perfect. It opened with perfection and continued the pattern for a full week before disaster struck.

✦ The Incident

According to the understanding of those that were there, and according to the media statement put out by TITAN, someone from the world of Umbrallah committed a sabotaging attack on the Bifrost Terminal's portal magitech after only a week of operation, causing the entire system and facility to malfunction catastrophically. Those who were within portals at the time of the sabotage have been presumed dead ever since.

✦ Post Incident and Closure

The Bifrost Terminal immediately shut its doors and was left as it stood, an abandoned dream, marred forever with the presumed deaths of those lost that day. TITAN held memorials for those lost, but far away from the Terminal itself. As the facility was now no longer functioning, the means of transport there had also been turned off. What used to be an easy step through the archway in Origa at the base of Mount Panthea to arrive out of the mirrored archway in the courtyard of the Terminal now became an arduously dangerous trek on foot or air. Still, the soft glow of the beacon could be seen from miles and miles around in all directions; the residual magitech energy assumed to dwindle in time through half-life.

✦ Present Day

The glow has never ceased nor has it dimmed much at all. It remains, now sitting in the minds of any who see it in the distant sky as little more than a permanent star on the horizon. ever hanging below Thraelos' rings. Few ever manage to make treks up to the long-abandoned Terminal, and fewer still ever manage to actually get inside, or return-- if some rumors are to be believed. With the storms as treacherous as they are up within The Pantheons, many assume any who have never returned to simply have fallen to the elements. It is an incredibly dangerous trek after all. Even the most skilled of flyers hesitate or outright refuse at the prospect of taking that trip.

Locale

✦ Outside

Imposing and more akin to an opulent fortress than a transportation facility, the exterior of The Bifrost Terminal is massive and decorated almost excessively. Even after a century, the facility was built so well, to last eons, that it looks nearly as pristine as the day it opened in complete spite of the weather around it. The Leviathan Beacon stands as formidable as ever against the bleak landscape.

✧ Exterior Areas

  • Grand portal archway
    • Presently deactivated; used to connect to the base of Mount Panthea, via the identical archway in Origa
  • Courtyard
  • Peak of Mount Panthea
    • The Leviathan Beacon reaches higher than the peak
  • The beacon statue of the Leviathan
✧ The Local Flora and Fauna

Most notably, the Frost Owlet Moths can be found at the peak of Mount Panthea, aka at The Bifrost Terminal. Presumably attracted to the cyan light as it matches closely to their own bio-glow.

✧ The Leviathan Beacon

TITAN's stylized version of the mythological world dragon of Thraelos, The Leviathan. With its simplified telltale horn pattern, it points its head toward the sky and holds the gem of the beacon itself between its jaws. The head reaches higher than the very peak of Mount Panthea just behind it, causing the light to be seen from all angles and all sides for miles and miles around. This was, of course, intentional and a symbol of a metaphorical lighthouse for this first interworld port-- and for pride.

✦ Inside

The inside of the Bifrost is cavernous in many ways. It has the feeling of a space meant to house many many thousands of people, and yet now not a single living person is here-- that we know of currently. Each step echoes far into the un-seeable distance. Every breath seems loud. However, the building itself seems not to miss these people it never got to host. It seems to have the energy of something patient, biding its time, willing and more than able to wait. It was built to last decades and decades, and so waiting a few hundred years would not-- and clearly has not-- hurt it. There is very little sign of age or abandonment at all, especially on the inside.

✧ The Residual Magic

A stunning bright cyan blue, the low glow seen throughout the Terminal in the current day is still thought to be the residual portal magic slowly going through half-life until, one day, it will completely fade away. Upon entering the building, it feels as though perhaps the remaining lights are also acting as emergency lighting. Either way, as it stands currently, the power is off and this magic is very low in potency. Perhaps it can be turned back on...

✧ The Trapped Souls

Presumed to be the ghosts of those that supposedly perished during The Incident. Nothing as of now is known about these souls other than there is a singular powerful Entity among them that has complete wherewithal to the current state of things...
