Curie
-- Curie
- SPOILERS AHEAD -The author would strongly advise reading the Ester & Curie Audition before this, as this entry completely spoils the events of that piece for the purpose of helping fellow writers with maintaining her mystery. You have been warned.
A long-lived dream demon who is discovering new things every day, Curie has spent decades preying upon academics, scientists and the occasional nosy teenager in their unending quest for knowledge. Curiosity and intrigue in all of its forms are her only sustenance and in having to draw that out of humans for years, it has bled into their very personality. They want to know everything about the world! They want to discover all of the exciting ways people can exist and thrive, how they can persist in spite of all odds, how they can survive after losing vital limbs/organs…
Table of ContentsBackstoryNo one is entirely sure where Curie came from. Their entire being is shrouded in mystery, and hardly anyone even knows of her existence. Nobody seems to know who she is, what she wants, or why she wants it.
As far as we're concerned, she's always been here... |

Personality
Curie is quite childlike, being an entity that has only a limited understanding of the world around them. They don’t entirely get the nuances of society and how to interact respectfully with one another. Hence she easily makes mistakes in conversation and is very likely to say something that will offend or upset the other party. She’s not willingly trying to upset others, she just doesn’t get it! Think like incredible naivety, only in the most dangerous way possible.
Being so fascinated by the world around them, Curie is quite prone to being impulsive. They will drop conversations or even tense fights if it stops being interesting/entertaining for them. They tend to have zero regard for their own host bodies because hey, they can always get new ones. Time is precious, you gotta use it only focusing on the important stuff like learning more about the world!

Abilities
Curie is an Inhabitant, a unique variety of a (normally) physically intangible entity who has to feed off of a sentient entity’s emotion of their choice in order to survive. For Curie this comes in the form of curiosity. They thrive off of making others wonder about the interesting and unexplained, and then feed from them until they are no more.
Being what she is, Curie’s central ability is Inhabitation. If they take a liking to a sapient entity, they can imprint themselves upon the target’s subconscious - This is a claim of ownership for Curie. Little can be done by her to the target while they are alive, however Curie can feed off of their curiosity to maintain strength, and once the target dies Curie can possess their body and use it as a physical host form. This is limited to only a few bodies and Curie can only actively embody one at a time, and while the others are not in use, they remain as mere corpses, still decaying and susceptible to anything and everything.
While the target is still alive, Curie can actively sit within their mind, criticising their every thought and even influence the host's actions by suggesting some of their own. Whether the target in question can figure this out as an outside influence or simply a bad voice in their head really depends upon the character’s own perceptive ability.

|
✧ Imperative Strengths
- Theoretically Indestructible
Being a creature of the mindscape, Curie does not possess a physical form and thus cannot be harmed directly. Her host bodies can (and likely will) always be destroyed, but they will remain in the rubble, every time.
- Inhuman Ability
It is said that humans can only use 10% of their body’s true potential. What with not being human and all, Curie can harness that extra 90% to perform seemingly unreal and impossible feats.
This includes the likes of super strength and powerful leaps, likely at the cost of the decaying muscle tissue within said host bodies. They will shrug off dislocations and shattered limbs until there isn’t a semblance of body left to move.
- Bad Influence
The more people they are able to inhabit, the stronger Curie’s mind manipulation abilities become. Starting small with simply being another voice in one’s subconscious, once strong enough they can progress to influencing one’s thoughts to eventually directly speaking through them before death.
✧ Imperative Weaknesses
- Glass Cannon
Curie’s hosts are regular human bodies in various states of decay. While they can bring out the latent strength in them, any damage incurred (either from outside forces or expending too much of their own strength) cannot and will not heal, and so eventually the host bodies will become unusable.
- Easily Distracted
Curie is incredibly weak to distractions - Any opportunity to test out what something will do to a human body is an exciting new avenue she will abandon all prior duties to undertake. As I’m sure you can imagine, this doesn’t often end well for their host bodies.
- Tag Out
Once out of a host body with none to return to, Curie cannot physically attack or affect others in any way. They are basically not a threat at this point until a person they have inhabited dies..
- Hates Dismissiveness
As Curie feeds on curiosity to survive, anyone who is not naturally inquisitive or suspicious will be practically immune to inhabitation. So long as they are not in a host body, this removes them as a target for Curie.

Relationships
Curie approaches everyone around her with a sense of childlike wonder and wishes to know everything they can about them. There isn’t a mean bone in her body - She doesn’t even understand the meaning of the word malice! While she may default to violence when something isn’t going her way, she doesn’t do it out of hate and will quickly snap back to indifference once she has gotten her way or the moment has passed.
Curie arrived at the Bifrost Terminal aboard a ship that had been manned by Ester. She is a bit frustrated that she can’t inhabit them, but she is interested in their seemingly endless knowledge of the universe. They essentially have the dynamic of a person trying to placate a dangerous wild animal with bits of food.
Usage Notes
Nothing is off-limits, shipping included (If you want to date a demon I guess) - But remember that Curie can't be killed, only their host bodies can. Eliminating all infected individuals & host bodies from play will basically give the same effect, anyway.

Author's Notes
✦ Curie just can’t wrap their head around piloting their host bodies. Regardless of how long they’ve been in the driver’s seat the outside observer gets the impression she is three children in a trenchcoat instead of a grown adult. It comes off as very clumsy at best and unnaturally freaky at worst.
✦ Curie would start with a former possessed host body and their current vessel - Professor Orson Crane and his daughter Leanne Crane. Only Leanne is present on Thraelos.
✦ Targets for hosts have to be a living entity with a soul and an ability to think. Curie’s powers, for example, are completely ineffective against Ester as they are a robot without a full sense of humanity.
✦ Despite having zero capability to focus on anything, Curie possesses quite the artistic streak. It's not certain if what she makes could be considered "art" exactly (and not to be rude but she's frankly pretty awful at it), but as long as she's happy I guess...
✦ Under the childlike wonder and easily distracted exterior, please remember: Curie is a predator. They are far more capable than they appear - All of that knowledge that has been found and collated over the years. One must wonder just how much of their personality is an act...
