Hawnloughe Khorn Van Astraya
-- Hawnlough Khorn van Astraya
A cursed ex-cultist for a demon patron and a journey blade for the Church of the Holy Flame.
Table of ContentsBackstoryBorn within the city of Langhouse. Hawnlough was birthed by the Priestess' love child of the Demon of Sword's Bane's high choir of the damned Ghoul: Grashun Fuller. The child was cursed by the high demon's lover's bane as an upcoming apostle of the blade to keep him faithful to the cause. Mangling the child's hand with burning claws which sunder the very soul of matter to be sure that the man could take no lover in his life.
Hawnlough was raised in the church faithfully as an upcoming apostle who would lead the church to war with the Central region of Apotheca: a small country to the world's outermost Western lands on the mainland. The boy fought fearlessly on the battlefield as a demonic apostle of death which laid waste to its enemies. The growing elf, facing a life-threatening wound caused by a great paladin of Apotheca, meditated in his injuries contemplating his goal with the church.
Hawnlough grew weary of the idea of dying for the sake of a church which used him like a disposable being and questioned his own strength. With his strength of body and blade techniques he could kill at least two paladins safely but his own comrades were different. It would take far too long to kill a fellow demonic practitioner with their own techniques and escape. The church would not hesitate to end his life to quell any discourse in the church due to his betrayal. He needed to change his tactics to better face demonic practitioners and so he sought religion in higher angels.
In his search the man found the Lady of the Holy Flame through a holy relic dropped by an assassinated paladin. The man struck a deal with the angelic being to seek revenge on the demonic practitioner with the price of gaining holy power to face his own church. Thus he began to learn in secret the methods of the church. Singeing his very own eyes to protect himself from the visage of a holy being which opposed his cursed flesh. He further tempered his blade in the techniques of the paladins which he faced and suffered retribution in his attacks against the very church he was now learning to mimic.
Hawnloughe's skin began to flake from the very presence of the lady as the light seared his flesh. His strengthening power in demonic power conflicting with his holy until the pain became too much to continue playing both sides. Hawnloughe murdered his partner in a joint attack assassination against a small paladin force who were camping nearby but knew he had no chance in survival against the church nor the paladins should they both see him as an enemy.
Thus Hawnloughe turned himself in to the paladins he was commanded to slay and betrayed the secrets of the church in exchange for refuge. Soon Hawnloughe's loyalty was tested by the paladins who began to send him out on missions of his own. This shattered the man's plans as he learned that there would never be true freedom for him in this world. He had no choice but to help end the church with his own hands.
Now Hawnloughe exists as a traitor to the Demon of Sword's Bane and higher demons while being a blemish on the image of the paladin's blade forces. However with his abilities they could do nothing but make use of him. Marking him as an apostle of their lady forcefully. Now Hawnloughe is an unwilling worshipper of the Lady of Holy Flame. Burning with the holy flame that leaves his demonic-cursed flesh seared and painful. |

Appearance
Hawnloughe is a tall, well-muscled Elven male with long brown hair. The back portion of his hair is kept tied into a bun. His eyes are charcoal in his sockets yet do not seem to affect his sight in any way. His expression appears endlessly tired and downtrodden with sunken, bruised eyelids. He scowls in an unapproachable way and skulks in the background of the room as a moody man. He keeps a longsword and two daggers normally strapped to him. All weapons are rusted and smeared with various fecal and decayed matter. He wears a blue tunic and leather spaulders with wine-red Kote to cover his forearms. His hands, when not covered, are an irritated red flesh with sharp pointed fingertips that glow with ethereal green energy after so much as touching another person's skin. He wears riding breeches strapped with hardened leather leg armor over soft black wool-lined slippers.
Personality
Hawnlough is a pessimist. Irritable with his own deity and hostile towards her enemies for no reason but unwilling servitude. Seeing himself as a slave to the Lady of Holy Flame he seeks to find a reason to continue to live as a tortured servant to the holy orders. He is very curt and professional wanting to make things as easy as possible for himself. He speaks respectfully and professionally when around strangers so as to not start fights. He fears touching other people due to the Lover's Bane. Even if his hands are covered he refuses to touch others so that he never grows lax and accidentally shortens someone's life.
Hawnloughe will have mercy on those he sees as unthreatening and even protect others should he have confidence in his safety however he will also allow another to die should he see it as a lost cause. Hawnloughe is not one to let a good deed go unpaid and will keep an eye on those who make his life easier but will not verbally state his thanks.
Hawnloughe is poorly matured and struggles with his responsibilities after his deal with the Holy Lady. He does not know what to do with his long life and struggles with the depression of not knowing what he wants to do with it.
Deep down Hawnloughe longs to be relieved of his duties and travel with a party of fools that give him purpose and reason.
In the Terminal Hawnloughe is very cautious after realizing the danger he is in. He trusts no one and would prefer to slowly cleanse the Terminal with his lady's Holy power without speaking to anyone else. He will hoarde all information and loot that he can get his hands on and only give it away in trade for something that he truly needs. He will silenly stalk other participants to eavesdrop on them to learn weaknesses and information they are not privy to giving away.
Hawnloughe will actively protect someone to the best of his ability should they prove themselves to be necessary to his survival but will also actively try to kill whoever threatens it.

Abilities
✦ Sword's Bane Swordsmanship
The user of the Demon of Sword's Bane studies the practice of swordsmanship until they are able to physically manifest their own using the power of their Patron deity. This manifested blade cuts to the concept of a being rather than their physical form. Beings without consciousness are unaffected by this technique so slashing a wall in half is impossible without an actual weapon or brute strength.
✦ Brazier of the Holy Lady
The being of the apostle exists in a state of flame. Objects associated with the apostle may be seen as on fire to those outside the faith. This ability allows the user to burn all that they touch to white hot fury. This is used by Hawnlough to superheat crafted weapons before using them to stab and sear the internals of his opponents. The flames are holy with destructive power. They burn carbon sources slower than normal flame and can burn with holy power alone should there be nothing to burn.
✦ Lover's Bane
The hands of the demonic worshipper are cursed to cut the life force of those that touch his bare flesh. While it was meant as a curse to never allow the user to take a lover it is useful in battle to cut down the energy of an enemy until they expire of natural causes. Any living person that so much as touches his hands can feel great pain as their soul is chipped away and their life force shortened by anywhere between a month to a year. This ability does not work on any being without a soul.

Usage Notes
There are no limits to character usage. Do whatever you feel would make the best story. Khorn is not intended to be a main character at all but instead a support to others as he does not have the emotional maturity to properly carry a narrative by himself.
Kill him, maul him, demean him, it's all fair game so long as it makes the story interesting.
