Reuben Rafalko was Head of Security for the Madderoot Family. A Private Estate Conglomerate with a shady past. Table of ContentsBackstoryThe Rafalko family’s lives were endangered when he was just a couple years old. Calling in for a family favor, the Madderoot family took Reuben in as one of their own while the rest of the family would go into hiding, hoping that the danger would subside. Sadly, his family was killed months later but Reuben was spared from that dreadful fate. The Director of the Madderoot Family sought to personally train the boy, not to raise him as a son but to use him as a fully useful asset to serve their interests. The Rafalko family specialized in a family trade secret; they knew the art of Phasmo-Graft. An art of imbuing bone char from people to conjure their talents and skills. The Rafalko did have a long history of assassinations, kidnapping, destabilizing governments, and terrorism all for a huge price of course. Raised alongside Cecilia, he’s done whatever bidding the Madderoot family requested. Eventually the Madderoot were content with his service that on his 21st birthday he was given a new name and new life, to start over again and live out in the world without having to worry about danger lurking around the corner. He eventually found himself in a free lance job working as a tattoo artist. People from all over the country would like a tattoo commissioned from him. However, the past will find a way to come back and haunt him for his actions. |

Personality
Reuben Rafalko has been described by most people as someone who who is loyal and reliable. Despite his parents dead at an early age, he learned quickly how to make himself useful. This method has worked out for him so he doesn't question or refuse requests by the Madderoots. When it comes to killing, he takes no enjoyment in it and would rather use it as a last resort. When it comes to the supernatural or ghosts in that matter, he strongly does not choose to disrespect or abuse their powers. He is afraid of ghosts due to his own experience of understanding of what they're capable and is more afraid of people who believe they can outsmart or conquer spiritual forces.
From his line of work, he holds a strong work ethic. Being bodyguard is serious work so he does his research, plan, and coordinate with others as pragmatically possible in order to accomplish said objectives. Even when the job is accomplished, he does not take too much credit or boast about his efforts. Reuben lets his work speak for himself. He's good at playing a different role but isn't a very convincing liar. Reuben can play a different identity or role but don't expect him to be an Oscar-Worthy performer. One particular flaw is that he misjudges people base on their skillset. Since he was born with his own skill, Reuben would reasonably assume that mastery over oneself skill is a display of mastery and good character. So it would be reasonable from his perspective that those who do not act professional are of poor character and would see them as untrustworthy.
His relationship with Cecilia Madderoot as a kind, loyal, and protective nature for her. During his childhood, he was raised to protect Cecilia in case of kidnappers or assassins due to the notoriety of her father. They became childhood friends when the Madderoot Family took him in, seeing how useful he is in terms of assets and abilities but also did it out of familial obligations. He's performed his job quite well in fact. This then start a slow burn of their relationship. Cecilia and Reuben have known each other for 21 years. But for the last seven years, something happened that caused them to split apart and they reunite under bitter circumstances.

Abilities

An ancient family traded secret passed down from one generation to another, Reuben has the abilities of possessing a dead person's abilities in order to use them for their own person. For example, if a dead swordsman' remains were found. Its bones can be turned to char which in turn can be grafted into a tattoo thus forming a social contract with the dead and living. There is a cost for using their abilities, ghosts would offer their services in exchange for something from the living. Sometimes it could be reading a book, eating a tasty meal, or listening to music. If however the social contract is not fulfilled, the ghosts will be angry and possess Reuben to control him to perform the necessary obligations or be violent in nature.

Reuben has enough knowledge to commune to the dead but it requires patience and time to make the exchange happen. The séance requires respect and no disrespect in order for it to work unless angering it to cause a reaction is the intended goal but for him, it's the last thing he would want to do.
