The worgen are a species of wolflike humanoids with animal intelligence and instincts. Long ago, humans tried to domesticate them, and after ages of animal husbandry and eugenics programming, the current iteration of this species now possess human intelligence. However, modern worgen exist in a nebulous cultural space where they are too feral to live peacefully with other sentient beings but lack the training to survive in the wild with their natural kin. 

As one of these worgen, Lyra is her own worst enemy. While she enjoys the thrill of the hunt, she must constantly rein herself in from going too far into her instincts. Lyra has no interest in the Bifrost Terminal and wants nothing more than to return to the Foundry for what was promised to her.

Backstory

Lyra was brought to the Foundry after being found wandering the streets as a pup. She was placed with the other foundlings and while she struggled to help with the odd jobs they were assigned, her strength and senses made her ideal for a different role within the organization.

She began training under another worgen who worked for the Foundry, a black furred beast named Tolk. He served as her mentor for years, showing her how to properly stalk and throw her weight around before teaching her how to hunt as a beast. With others she had to maintain some form of ‘societal norms,’ dressing in clothes and walking upright. But in training she could let herself go, embrace her instincts and run wild.

Her life changed when she was told to retrieve another foundling who had gone beyond the city walls. Lyra had tried to bring them back, but when the foundling refused she became frustrated and lashed out. This was her first kill, and while she was praised for retrieving the foundling Lyra was distraught. She feared her own strength and how much she enjoyed the act of violence and the praise it achieved. It took a week before she could stomach training, but afterwards she was never the same.

The Foundry continues to praise her for all she does, and she is happy to have a home. But it’s empty now that she knows her true self. Lyra distanced herself from the other foundlings, not wanting to know any of them on the off chance she hurt someone else. The only person she lets in close is Moss, who for some reason is the only one who can pull her out of her head whenever she gets lost in her senses.
