-- Moss

A catkin with a mile-long list of trauma, Moss is a deadly sniper owned by an organization known as the Foundry, for which he has been trained to hunt and retrieve bounties. Along with his partner Lyra, he has grown wary of his place within the organization. Though he is young and lacking experience in exorcism, he's adamant that the Bifrost Terminal job may become a chance to escape the life he was forced into.

Backstory

Prior to his adoption by the Foundry, Moss has no memory of his life, happy or otherwise. As a foundling, his life depended on his usefulness to the organization -- only work would buy him food and shelter; anything less meant being left out in the cold to starve. Should he survive to age 16, he was told, only then would he be given money and a job within the city state of Marshall. Until then, he was visibly nothing more than property, as indicated by the iron collar clamped around his neck.

While still small, he was rented out for odd jobs that bigger individuals could not do; often involving the factories that made up the majority of Marshall’s industrial sector. Some of these jobs included accessing tight corners under machinery that needed to be cleaned and dislodging jams in equipment. Dangerous work that ended with the loss of his left pinky and index finger while dislodging material from a gear. It was miserable work, but he was at least miserable with the other foundlings in their care. His closest companion being Lyra, a worgen companion whom he would later be paired with for bounty hunting.

At the age of seven, Moss was given a test as to whether or not he could brandish Dawn Breaker, a relic that the Foundry had acquired many years prior after killing its initial host. The weapon is selective, only taking its true form, a golden rifle, for those it likes. When Moss proved he could use Dawn Breaker, he became an asset for the Foundry. Moss was no longer just a small child, but something they could mould into something more lucrative.

Afterwords, Moss was subjected to harsh trainings and rigorous schedules alongside Lyra. Death and fear were his constant companions as he learned how to properly hunt and kill targets with the aid of the Foundry’s elite. His worth continued to be determined by his usefulness-- by effectively utilizing Dawn Breaker, anything short of perfection was punishable.

And any form of retaliation against the Foundry was met with its own form of penance carved from his very body.

Now at the age of 15, Moss is on the verge of aging out of the Foundry’s custody and fears the unknown fate that awaits his return to the Foundry.

Personality

Confident and self-assured, Moss believes himself to be the best when it comes to his own talents. Though not very sociable and distrustful of others, he will gladly meet a challenge if it means to show off or prove himself.

However, while mature for his age Moss is still a teenager. His overconfidence and lack of life experience outside of the Foundry often leads him into trouble. Asking for help is hard for him, and while he has a companion, Lyra is far from a doting friend.

Having killed a lot of individuals in his life, Moss can also be rather cold and blunt about the topic. To him, everyone dies and that is a fact of life no matter how it happens. But not everyone gets to live. Though he views the world in a very bleak light, his confidence makes him hopeful for a better life.

Skills & Stats

Gear

Dawn Breaker: A relic from an era in which dragon hunting was a common sport; Dawn Breaker is a custom-made bolt-action rifle that fires .308 rounds and has an effective range of 1000 yards (roughly 900 meters) in experienced hands. When inactive, it condenses down to that of a small knife.

  • Both forms are golden, with filigree carved along the barrel/blade.
  • Initially designed to fire spell infused rounds without the barrel shattering, however as Moss lacks any magic ability this is not something he can utilize.
  • Though an inanimate object, it is selective of its users and will refuse to cooperate if treated poorly, or if it dislikes the handler. Oftentimes it will remain in its inactive form for years until eventually passed to someone worthy of its bond.
  • Swinging Dawn Breaker like a bat, or any form of rough treatment can break the bond to its current handler. Broken bonds cannot be recovered, and it will refuse to operate as an effective weapon for that handler.
  • Likewise, cleaning and care helps strengthen the bond.

Collar: A tracking device used to keep track of the Foundry’s assets.

  •  The collars have a small bomb hidden inside to deter tampering.
  • The altitude has caused the collars to go offline. Tracking is not available while within the bifrost terminal, but the bomb is still very much live.

✦ Imperative Strengths

[ Dawn Breaker ] – Dawn Breaker is Moss’ weapon of choice (see Gear Tab for more info on the weapon itself). In ideal conditions (I.e. sunny day, no wind) Moss can accurately hit a target 900 meters away. Due to how the weapon transforms, Moss must load Dawn Breaker every time it activates. In a rush he can eject and reload the weapon in 5 seconds before firing, however this is not a weapon that can be fired from the hip. Incorrect use can hurt Moss due to the recoil.

Imperative Weaknesses

[ Missing Limbs ] - Moss is missing his left right leg, right eye, and two fingers (pinky and index) from his left hand. As a result, he has limited vision and mobility. He can run, but his prosthetic leg slips on smooth surfaces.

[ Aches and Pains ] – The cold and altitude has made it to where he is almost always in pain while on the mountain. His prosthetic leg also does not fit properly due to limb shrinkage from the cold, making his amputated leg raw and require near constant resituating.
